Labour Court declines to recommend reinstatement for Central Bank worker

By Aoife Loughran

Labour Court ·

In 1987, the Labour Court declined to recommend reinstatement for a worker dismissed by the Central Bank of Ireland after an allegation that she interfered with another worker’s locker. The recommendation was signed on 4 May 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union sought her reinstatement, disputing the allegation and saying the evidence did not support it. The bank said it had investigated the matter and concluded it had no option but to dismiss the worker. The Court said the bank had not acted unreasonably and did not recommend conceding the union’s reinstatement claim.
