In 1987, the Labour Court recommended a phased pay increase for a housekeeper employed by Women's Aid, following a claim by the Local Government And Public Services' Union. The recommendation was signed on 6 April 1987. The union sought to bring her pay into line with the Eastern Health Board domestic rate. Women's Aid said it could not afford the increase while its Howth Road premises were closed for refurbishment. The Court recommended paying half the difference between her current rate and the minimum domestic rate from 1 March 1987, with the balance from the premises' reopening as a hostel. It also recommended renewing a rent charge on the domestic scale from 1 March 1987.
