The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union’s claim against Dublin Corporation for weekend travel-time payments to two supervising gardeners. The recommendation was signed on 30 March 1987. The gardeners had received an extra hour of travel time when involved in weekend work for about five years. Dublin Corporation said the payment had been made in error and stopped it in August 1986. The union argued the gardeners were regularly called out at weekends and remained entitled to the payment. The Court concluded the payments had been made in error and that entitlement had not been established. It did not recommend conceding the union’s claim.
