In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that public holiday payments and free day entitlements for attendants at the Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum match those applying to prison officers. The recommendation was signed on 13 January 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union sought the change for about 120 attendants. The Eastern Health Board said the groups had different rosters and public holiday arrangements, that existing payments complied with the Holidays (Employees) Act 1973, and that it lacked funds for improvements. The Court recommended matching the prison officers’ arrangements.
