A WRC adjudication officer recommended €4,000 compensation for a general manager’s constructive dismissal, finding that a wholesale and retail business had treated him grossly unfairly. The recommendation was dated 25 July 2025.

The worker said the employer reduced his working week from five days to one, failed to pay his September wages and ignored attempts by him and his solicitor to resolve the dispute. He said he resigned after just under six months with the business. The employer did not attend the hearing, but the officer proceeded after finding it had been properly notified.

The officer found that the employer had, to a significant degree, engineered the worker’s dismissal by reducing his hours, withholding wages and refusing to engage. She also found that the worker and his solicitor had made every reasonable effort to resolve the problems. She recommended €4,000, approximately four weeks’ pay.
