WRC recommends €1,800 net after finding dismissal process unfair

The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that the Meat Processing Plant pay an anonymised Process Operator €1,800 net after finding he was treated unfairly in the way his employment was terminated. The recommendation, dated 1 July 2025, followed his complaint about the dismissal process. The worker said he had planned to leave on 24 November 2024 and was dismissed on 24 October after insisting on a toilet break. The employer did not attend the hearing. The adjudication officer found that proper procedures had not been used and the termination letter gave no substantial grounds. The recommendation took account of a week’s notice already paid.
