WRC recommends €2,500 for worker dismissed without fair procedures

A WRC adjudication officer recommended that an employer pay a catering assistant €2,500 after finding that she was dismissed during probation without fair procedures. The recommendation was dated 11 February 2025. The worker said management’s attitude worsened after she raised concerns about unpaid hours and breaks. The employer said it ended her employment because of performance concerns. The adjudicator found the worker had not been told she could bring someone to the dismissal meeting or appeal, and that the decision to dismiss had already been made. The officer recommended €2,500 compensation under section 13 of the Industrial Relations Act 1969.
