WRC recommends €7,000 for worker over handling of bullying complaint

A WRC adjudication officer recommended that an employer pay a worker €7,000 after finding it failed to follow its procedures when deciding not to investigate her formal bullying complaint. The recommendation was dated 21 April 2026.

The worker said she had reported six incidents involving a colleague and requested an investigation after informal efforts failed to resolve the issues. The employer said its policy did not require an investigation in every case and pointed to mediation and other steps it had offered.

The officer found the decision not to investigate was not based on an evidence-based review of the circumstances. He considered it inappropriate to emphasise the worker’s decision not to proceed with mediation. As she was no longer employed, an investigation was no longer practical. The €7,000 recommendation was in full and final settlement of the dispute.
