The WRC found no bias or unfairness in a manufacturing company’s appointment of a warehouse specialist, ending a worker’s dispute over the promotion. Adjudication Officer Peter O’Brien dated the recommendation 19 May 2026. The worker said a supervisor’s friend, with less service and experience, had been appointed instead of him. The employer said it reduced three warehouse operator roles because of overstaffing, then used structured interviews and scoring to select the highest-scoring candidate. O’Brien found no evidence supporting the allegation of bias and said his review of the scores showed nothing to suggest an unfair process. He also said the WRC could not replace the successful candidate, who had no voice at the hearing. O’Brien recommended that the parties consider the grievance complete and the dispute closed. He also recommended that, if the worker wished, he discuss areas for improvement with a talent or HR specialist before applying for future warehouse roles.
