The Workplace Relations Commission recommended €2,000 compensation for a worker it found had been unfairly dismissed after returning to a food production facility. The recommendation was dated 19 March 2026.

The worker resigned from a long-standing job in December 2024, then returned days later under a new contract with a six-month probation period. He said he was dismissed after refusing an instruction to work in an area where he had not been trained. The employer said the probation terms allowed it to end the contract and that the worker had an appeal meeting.

The adjudication officer noted that the employer knew the worker’s work history and ability and found the alleged misconduct minor. The worker was dismissed without a formal process, and the appeal did not properly investigate the circumstances or give him a chance to defend himself. The officer found the dismissal unfair and recommended €2,000 compensation.
