A WRC recommendation dated 5 September 2025 did not find in favour of a shop worker in a dispute over his dismissal after a €100 cash-handling error. He said he mistakenly paid a customer €100 cashback after a card was declined and reported the error. The employer said the loss followed earlier mistakes and that it had offered to let him stay until the New Year. The officer noted that the worker did not deny the mistake and chose to stay until the New Year before deciding not to return the following day. The worker also alleged that a manager made a remark about him during a phone call; an employer witness said he had not heard it. The officer did not find in the worker’s favour.
