WRC recommends €3,000 goodwill payment after Grade VI recruitment dispute

The WRC recommended a €3,000 goodwill payment to a worker who was shortlisted and interviewed for a Grade VI HR role but was offered a Grade V position. The recommendation was dated 12 May 2025. The worker sought appointment to the Grade VI post and backdated pay. The employer said she did not meet the qualification criteria. The adjudication officer found shortcomings in the grievance process and said unclear qualification wording had raised the worker’s expectations. The WRC also recommended clearer qualification criteria in vacancy notices, examples of similar-discipline qualifications the employer had previously deemed acceptable, and a review of a proposed Grade VI HR role.
