WRC asks county council to explain wage deductions to worker

By Aoife Loughran

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The WRC recommended that a county council explain wage deductions to a worker who said it had mishandled his grievance. The decision was dated 6 May 2025. The worker sought repayment of salary lost on half-pay and €20,000 for stress and ill health. The council said it had investigated his grievance and appeal and paid him under its sick-pay scheme. The adjudication officer found that the investigation was delayed but that the worker’s concerns were examined and he had an opportunity to appeal. The officer accepted that he had no entitlement to paid administrative leave and found the council had followed its grievance and sick-pay procedures. The council was asked to explain in writing deductions made between 28 August and 31 December 2024, within two weeks; no compensation was recommended.
