The WRC recommended that a house-building company amend its disciplinary procedure to let workers choose a trade union representative at every stage. The recommendation was dated 27 August 2024. A general operative said his request for a union official to accompany him at a February 2024 disciplinary meeting was refused. The employer said its procedure allowed a colleague to attend and that the meeting resulted in no adverse finding. His employment later ended after a second disciplinary meeting, which he attended with a union representative. The WRC found that workers could choose a trade union official under the applicable Code of Practice and recommended changing the procedure accordingly.
