WRC declines to recommend on grievance dispute overlapping with equality claims

The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that no industrial relations recommendation be made on a worker’s dispute over a delayed workplace grievance. The recommendation was dated 13 May 2025. The worker said management had delayed a grievance begun in July 2022 and sought a return to work or access to an injured-at-work scheme. The employer said the grievance process was unfinished and described efforts to explore mediation and alternative roles. The officer said the dispute overlapped with claims under equality legislation, including issues related to reasonable accommodation. She recommended that the parties accept that no useful purpose would be served by an industrial relations recommendation in the circumstances.
