The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that a public body offer a public health nurse €3,000 as a goodwill gesture after a dispute over her transfer and a delayed grievance. It also recommended that the employer hear her grievance promptly. The recommendation was dated 9 August 2024.
The nurse said she accepted a transfer expecting to keep a three-day working arrangement. The employer said she had accepted a full-time post and that the receiving location could not accommodate her existing hours because of service needs and other flexible-working requests.
The officer said an adjudication officer could not interpret national agreements and noted the employer’s service needs. She identified the refusal to hear the grievance as a concern and recommended that it be heard as soon as possible, with the nurse temporarily returning on the employer’s proposed compromise terms. The €3,000 was recommended as compensation for the time taken to resolve the dispute and the worker’s unpaid leave.
