The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that an employer take no further action on a chargehand cleaner’s pay claim. The recommendation was dated 17 July 2024. SIPTU argued that the chargehand cleaner rate should match the supervisor cleaner rate under a 2001 agreement. The employer said the agreement set pay parity only for cleaners and did not link supervisor rates to other grades. The adjudication officer found that the worker had performed the duties of the appointed grade and said the WRC could not recommend changing that grade’s pay rate. The officer also said the union had not raised its interpretation of the 2001 agreement when it was negotiated.
