The Workplace Relations Commission recommended €15,000 compensation for a worker it found had been sexually harassed, and criticised the employer’s delay in investigating her complaint. The recommendation was dated 6 February 2024.
The worker, a Channel Operations Administrator on a six-month contract, said a colleague made unwanted sexual advances during a night out and later put a sticker on her leg at work. The colleague accepted that he had behaved rudely and unprofessionally and apologised. The employer said it upheld the worker’s complaint and took disciplinary action against him.
The officer found the conduct amounted to sexual harassment. The investigation outcome took more than three months after the worker formally reported the incidents, and her appeal of that outcome was not heard after her employment ended. The officer recommended the employer pay €15,000 within 42 days.
