The WRC recommended that a worker seek a certificate of attainment so he could be considered for a senior general services supervisor role in future, and that a county council offer assistance. The recommendation was dated 20 November 2023.
The worker had been an acting supervisor but was not interviewed for the permanent post because he did not provide evidence of a craft certificate or equivalent. The council said the qualification requirement was clear. The adjudication officer accepted that applying it equally was fair, while saying it was reasonable for the worker to think his qualifications would again be accepted. The officer did not decide whether they were equivalent.
