WRC recommends €400 payment for worker switching from cheque to electronic wages

The WRC recommended that a worker accept the employer’s €400 offer in return for switching from cheque wages to electronic funds transfer. Adjudication officer Marie Flynn’s recommendation was dated 1 March 2024. The worker had been paid by cheque for almost 18 years and argued that electronic payment could bring bank charges and breach his contract. The employer said cheque processing was burdensome and less secure. Flynn followed a Labour Court recommendation that five colleagues receive €400 each to move to electronic payment.
