Labour Court rejects Glenn Pickford’s late appeal

The Labour Court upheld the WRC decision in Glenn Pickford’s equality complaint after refusing to extend the appeal deadline. The Court’s determination was dated 11 October 2024. Pickford said he misunderstood emails and became confused about dates while under stress. St Vincent’s Private Hospital argued that confusion about the statutory deadline was not exceptional. The Court found that his appeal arrived 61 days after the WRC decision, beyond the 42-day limit, and that he had not shown exceptional circumstances to justify an extension. The merits of the underlying complaint were not decided.
