The Labour Court reduced Carnegie Court Hotel’s €1,000 compensation award to Tomas Cicmis to €800 in a working-time appeal dated 22 August 2012. The Rights Commissioner had upheld complaints about daily rest, meal breaks and notice of finishing times under the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997. The hotel said Cicmis received meals and short breaks, and that Saturday-night finishing times could not always be set in advance. The Court’s investigation found nine occasions without the required 11-hour rest between rosters, rather than the ten initially identified. It upheld the original findings but varied the compensation to €800.
