The Labour Court upheld the €800 compensation award to Peter Partl after his appeal for increased compensation failed. Its determination was signed on 22 August 2012. The Rights Commissioner had upheld complaints about daily rest, meal breaks and notice of finishing times under the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997. Partl said he missed meal breaks and had ten occasions without the required 11-hour rest between shifts. Carnegie Court Hotel accepted those ten rest-period breaches, but said he received meals and short breaks and that Saturday-night finishing times could not always be set in advance. The Court found the award met the required standard and saw no reason to vary it. The hotel said it had changed its recording system to ensure compliance.
