WRC finds Padraig Cotter’s dismissal was genuine redundancy

The Workplace Relations Commission found that Padraig Cotter was fairly dismissed by Trabolgan Holiday Centre Limited after a genuine redundancy, rejecting his claim that his dismissal was penalisation for a protected disclosure. The decision was dated 8 June 2026.

Cotter alleged that he was selected for redundancy because he complained to the Private Security Authority about allegedly unregulated security services. The company said its need for security staff fell after a contract ended or diminished. The adjudication officer found that Cotter’s role ceased in its former form, no suitable alternative roles were available and there was no evidence management knew he had made the anonymous complaint.
