WRC finds no jurisdiction over Jamie Powell’s unfair dismissal complaint

The Workplace Relations Commission found it had no jurisdiction to consider Jamie Powell’s unfair dismissal complaint because he did not establish that his employment had been terminated. Adjudication Officer Christina Ryan dated the decision 17 September 2026. Powell said his manager verbally dismissed him on 28 October 2025. Eamonn Gray Fingal Steel Limited said he was sent home over mobile phone use while the company considered disciplinary action. The adjudicator found that directing Powell to leave did not end the employment relationship; the company’s later invitation to a disciplinary meeting was consistent with that finding.
