The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Shulammite Awotundun €40,789 after finding she was unfairly dismissed by Brendan Vacations Ireland, Ltd. The decision, dated 6 May 2026, found the company had not established a genuine redundancy, used no objective selection criteria and failed to properly explore alternatives, including a similar-level vacancy.
The company said restructuring prompted a genuine redundancy and that fair procedures were followed; it said another candidate better met the vacancy criteria. The adjudication officer also found that the company’s handling of a reference request contributed to Awotundun’s later job loss and ongoing financial losses. Her separate Employment Equality complaint was withdrawn.
