The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Laura Celine Patton, trading as Alphabet Bookmakers, to pay Katie Mernagh compensation on four complaints. The decision is dated 23 February 2026.

The complaints concerned Sunday work, written employment terms, Christmas public-holiday pay and rest breaks. The awards were €200, €1,000, €120 and €500 respectively. The adjudicator said the compensation was for breaches of statutory rights, not wages or arrears.

The adjudicator found the employer had not produced a valid signed and dated statement of terms, and had not shown that the public-holiday payment was made. The rest-break complaint was upheld after Mernagh said she could not leave her workstation and the employer said breaks were possible when the shop was quiet.

The constructive-dismissal, sick-leave, Protection of Employment Act, final-payment and unfair-dismissal complaints were not well founded. The adjudicator said Mernagh had not shown that she had no option but to resign and had not pursued a formal grievance before resigning.
