The Workplace Relations Commission upheld Joseph Martin’s complaint that he had not received his statutory public holiday entitlement and ordered Praxis Care Ltd. to pay him €1,200 compensation. Adjudication Officer Patricia Owens issued the decision dated 23 April 2026.
Martin said he raised the missing payments with Praxis in 2023 and later disputed the company’s calculations and payment process. Praxis said it had corrected an error affecting relief staff and paid the entitlement due within the relevant period. The officer found there was no evidence at the hearing that Martin had been paid for six public holidays in the period under consideration. Bank statements showed he was paid for those holidays after the hearing; the officer made no further payment direction for them.
The officer also directed Praxis to put appropriate remuneration measures in place for qualifying zero-hours staff.
