The Workplace Relations Commission ordered The Returning Officer for Galway County to arrange voter-entitlement training for poll clerks and presiding officers, after a clerk mistakenly told Maria Manuela de Almeida Silva she could vote only in the European election. The decision was dated 26 November 2025.
Silva had complained of nationality discrimination after the incident at a polling station in Ballybane, County Galway. The presiding officer corrected the mistake and she voted in both elections. The WRC found the complaint was not well founded, saying she suffered no detriment and the evidence did not establish discrimination. It nevertheless ordered training because of the risk that voters could be prevented from exercising their franchise.
