The Workplace Relations Commission found that Kathleen O’Brien was not discriminated against by M J Sheehan Limited t/a Devon Inn Hotel, dismissing her complaint that the hotel refused her service because of her race and Traveller identity. The decision was dated 27 March 2025. O’Brien was initially asked to wait and later refused a table. The WRC accepted the hotel’s explanation that it was busy and facing booking, staffing and kitchen capacity pressures, and found insufficient evidence that the refusal was because of her race or Traveller identity.
