The WRC recommended that an ecommerce customer support service pay a customer success manager €10,000 after finding he was unfairly dismissed during probation without fair procedures. The recommendation was dated 3 September 2024.
The worker was dismissed on 5 April 2024, four days before his six-month probation was due to end. He said he had not been told of performance concerns and did not know his job was at risk when he attended the meeting that led to his dismissal. The employer said his performance did not meet expectations given his experience and earnings.
The officer found there had been no probation meetings, no prior notice of concerns and no appeal. The worker started a new job three months later at a higher salary. The WRC recommended compensation for the lack of fair procedures and unfair dismissal, taking account of a similar Labour Court recommendation.
