A Workplace Relations Commission adjudicator found Alina Karabko’s complaint about the handling of her request for fully remote work was not well founded. The decision, dated 24 July 2024, concerned Tiktok Technology Ltd. Karabko argued that her circumstances and reasons for seeking remote work were not fairly considered. Tiktok said it assessed the request, weighed her needs against the business’s needs and refused it for business reasons. The adjudicator found the company had considered the request in detail and had notified Karabko in writing of its refusal and reasons within the required period. Under the law, the WRC could assess how the request was handled, but could not review the merits of the employer’s refusal.
