WRC recommends employer’s position be accepted in truck driver’s dismissal dispute

The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) recommended that an employer’s position be accepted in a truck driver’s dismissal dispute, concluding that no unfair dismissal took place. The decision was dated 11 October 2024. The worker said he was dismissed after raising concerns about truck safety and without proper procedures. The employer said the trucks were roadworthy, the worker was on probation and customer complaints followed an incident that led to him being barred from a wastewater treatment site. The adjudication officer found the site ban made the worker unemployable as a driver with the company and was the reason for dismissal. The officer noted procedural shortcomings but said the employer had investigated the incidents and recommended its position be accepted.
