The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) awarded Anthony Padden €25,000 after finding Kaefer Limited unfairly dismissed him in a redundancy process. The decision was dated 23 January 2026.
Padden said the company changed its selection method from a scoring matrix to last-in-first-out, resulting in his selection. Kaefer said reduced winter work required cutting its painting team from four positions to two and maintained that the dismissal was fair. The WRC found the change lacked transparency and fairness, and that Kaefer had not shown it considered alternatives to redundancy or used a fair, independent appeal process.
The WRC rejected his minimum-notice complaint, finding the payment in lieu met the statutory minimum, and his complaint about written employment terms.
