WRC recommends €2,437.50 for restaurant worker unfairly dismissed

The Workplace Relations Commission recommended €2,437.50 compensation for a restaurant worker after finding he was unfairly dismissed. WRC Adjudication Officer Úna Glazier-Farmer dated the recommendation 10 April 2024. The worker expected to return after the seasonal closure; the restaurant said his employment ended each year when it closed. The WRC found the January 2023 letter did not say his employment had ended or that he would not return. The officer considered his expectation of returning reasonable, noting that other employees returned in later seasons. The recommendation covered the period he was out of work from 6 March to 20 April 2023.
