Hotel worker awarded compensation over breaks and notice pay

The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Syed Bilal Perwaiz €1,035 for missed statutory breaks and €345 for unpaid minimum notice. The decision, dated 31 March 2025, also rejected his separate complaint about changes to his terms of employment. Perwaiz said he was not given breaks or paid for his notice period. The Montenotte Hotel said breaks were provided but acknowledged it kept no break records, and said notice pay had been made while it recouped an earlier overpayment. The adjudicator preferred Perwaiz’s account on breaks and found the hotel had not shown that minimum notice was paid.
