The Workplace Relations Commission found that Valshan Unlimited discriminated against spa therapist Desiree Goncalves on a ground related to pregnancy and ordered the employer to pay her €7,000 compensation. The decision was dated 29 November 2024.

The WRC found that Goncalves received fewer hours than agreed after returning to work and was prevented from performing a facial treatment for which she was qualified. The employer cited a scheduling error, reduced staff hours after a flood, and the absence of a risk assessment for the treatment. The adjudicator found that the employer had not given sufficient attention to alternative duties Goncalves proposed.

Her separate complaints of family status discrimination and refusal of health and safety leave were not well founded.
