The Workplace Relations Commission found that Vanessa Corral made a protected disclosure about undiluted chemicals used to clean hotel mattresses, but rejected her claim that her dismissal was penalisation. The decision, dated 5 February 2025, was made by adjudication officer Andrew Heavey.
Corral, an accommodation assistant at Tulane Business Management Limited trading as Samuel Hotel, alleged she was dismissed for raising workplace concerns. The hotel said she was dismissed for misconduct after repeatedly leaving work without permission, and denied penalisation. The WRC found no causal link between the disclosure and her dismissal. It also found that her complaints about her property and perceived treatment were personal grievances, not protected disclosures.
