The Workplace Relations Commission found a Traveller discrimination complaint against Killarney Oaks Hotel was not well founded. The decision, dated 19 April 2024, concerned James Casey’s claim that he and his family were not offered a restaurant table because they are Travellers.
Casey said his family waited about 30 minutes while other customers were seated. The hotel said it was exceptionally busy, the restaurant was booked for wedding guests and a tour group was using the lobby. The adjudication officer accepted that the wait was caused by the busy conditions and found it was not connected to Casey’s Traveller identity.
