Veaceslav Gafton was awarded €1,261 in arrears of pay and €660 for annual leave after the Workplace Relations Commission upheld his complaints against Rice Transport & Commercial Repairs Limited. The decision was dated 29 January 2024. Gafton said he was owed wages for his first week, a training day, extra hours and a shortfall in his final week’s pay, as well as annual leave. The company said it had paid €550 in cash for the first week and disputed his claims about training and extra hours. The officer found breaches of the Payment of Wages Act, including unpaid first-week wages, training and extra hours, and a €54 shortfall in final pay. The officer also found the annual leave complaint well-founded and ordered payment for five days’ leave. The operative decision awarded €1,261 in pay arrears and €660 for annual leave.
