The Workplace Relations Commission has rejected a retired former Dublin City Council worker’s age discrimination complaint over his request to transfer to council housing in Dublin. Henry Greene, who lives in County Meath, argued that the exchange requirement disadvantaged older people. The decision was dated 13 February 2024.
The council did not attend the hearing. The adjudicator said Greene provided no evidence that older people found it harder to arrange a transfer and found that the council’s regrettable discourtesy and lack of empathy did not establish discrimination under the Equal Status Act. The complaint was found not well founded.
