The Workplace Relations Commission found Adam Campion was unfairly dismissed by Fairco Limited and awarded him €3,600 gross compensation, equivalent to six weeks’ pay. The decision was dated 5 July 2024. Fairco said business difficulties required it to reduce headcount and that Campion was selected because he had the least service. The adjudicator accepted there were business difficulties but found Fairco had not shown how Campion’s service compared with other fitters. Campion had not been consulted about the redundancy, the selection method or alternatives. The WRC also considered an earlier issue with his crew leader. The WRC found the other complaints were not well founded. They concerned minimum notice, terms of employment and working time; Campion had received a week’s pay in lieu of notice.
