The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) found that Flexiteam Ltd., trading as Killaloe Hotel and Spa, discriminated against Dr. Jacqueline Elliott because of her disability after accepting a booking for a wheelchair-accessible room it could not provide. The decision was dated 10 November 2023 and ordered €7,000 compensation.
Elliott said she could not use the bathroom or washing facilities in the room booked for her and her daughter. The hotel said it offered accessible facilities but not fully accessible rooms, and attributed the booking problem to staff error.
The WRC also ordered the hotel to amend its website by 31 January 2024 to explain its facilities and state that its current rooms were not wheelchair accessible. The gender issue was not pursued at the hearing, and the decision found no case made out on civil status or gender grounds.
