WRC rejects pension discrimination complaint against water scheme

The Workplace Relations Commission found that Joanne Carragher was not discriminated against over access to an occupational pension scheme. Its decision, dated 18 December 2023, concerned the Magheracloone Group Water Scheme. Carragher said she could not join a construction industry pension scheme and was treated less favourably than a male colleague. The adjudication officer found the scheme was not open to employees of water schemes, regardless of gender. The male colleague’s membership stemmed from previous employment, and the officer found no breach of equal pension treatment.
