The Workplace Relations Commission found hotel receptionist Lisa Phillips was unfairly dismissed by Kilmore Investments Limited T/A Saltees Coast Hotel and awarded her €2,363.77 in redress. The decision was dated 4 August 2023.
The hotel said it no longer needed a receptionist and suggested Phillips had been laid off or made redundant. Phillips said the employer never directly told her her employment had ended; she learned of the termination from Revenue. The adjudication officer found there was no written notice or procedure for a layoff, redundancy or dismissal.
Phillips reported weekly losses of €87.51 after social welfare payments of about €210 a week. The officer found she had tried to limit her losses and had secured new employment towards the end of April 2023.
