WRC recommends €4,028 for worker after delays in grievance handling

A Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) adjudication officer recommended that an employer pay a worker €4,028 for a period of unpaid sick leave, after finding shortcomings and delays in handling her grievances. The decision was dated 3 March 2023. The worker argued that the employer failed to follow agreed grievance procedures and address findings by an external consultant. The employer attended the hearing but made no submissions. The officer found that the January 2020 grievance investigation was flawed, that later investigations mainly upheld the worker’s grievances, and that the employer delayed acting on their findings and providing practical outcomes. The recommended payment covered unpaid sick leave from 25 September to 25 November 2021.
