The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) found a teenager’s complaint that a cinema discriminated against him on the Traveller community ground not well founded. The decision was dated 5 June 2024. The teenager said a cinema staff member asked him to leave with other customers who had been removed; the cinema said he left voluntarily after his friend was asked to go.
The adjudication officer found there had been a disturbance, but that the teenager had not taken part in antisocial behaviour. The evidence did not show he was treated less favourably because he was a member of the Traveller community. The officer also found that the statutory exception for preventing disorderly conduct applied if he had been asked to leave.
