The Workplace Relations Commission found Carmel Egan was unfairly dismissed by Eamonn Moran Ltd and awarded her €10,000 in compensation. The decision, dated 12 January 2024, also awarded her €1,944.91 gross for unpaid November wages and €1,809.22 for four weeks’ notice pay.

Egan worked as an administrator for the road freight company and was also a director and company secretary. She said she was removed from her role without notice and was owed wages and notice pay. The company said she left voluntarily for another haulage firm and that her wages had been paid.

The adjudicator found the termination was initiated by the company without Egan’s consent. The award reflected the contribution of the breakdown of her personal relationship with the managing director and her lack of effort to seek other work. Egan also succeeded in a complaint about written employment terms, but received no compensation for it.
