The Workplace Relations Commission found that Inland Fisheries Ireland did not discriminate against Gráinne Dunne on gender in a competition for a temporary assistant inspector role. Adjudication Officer Andrew Heavey dated the decision 8 January 2025. Dunne said she ranked third and that a male colleague received a later third vacancy. She also said comments about her being the only woman applying for the role were made at interview and in feedback. The respondent said the appointment reflected the successful candidate’s experience on the Mobile Support Unit and prosecution record. The adjudicator accepted that the comments were made, but found they did not indicate a discriminatory attitude or explain the appointment. The respondent’s reasons were accepted, and the complaint was found not well founded.
