WRC rejects Rory Cahill’s annual leave complaint against Synergy Security Solutions

A WRC adjudication officer found Rory Cahill’s complaint about paid annual leave not well founded, concluding he received his statutory leave entitlement and normal weekly pay for leave taken. The decision was dated 18 April 2023. Cahill said Synergy Security Solutions had agreed to pay him for 45 hours for a week of leave, then changed that arrangement without telling him. The company said its payroll system calculated leave as 8.3% of hours worked and that his entitlement had been calculated correctly. The officer considered the leave year from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022, the period covered by the statutory rules. After comparing both parties’ records, the officer found Cahill received 195 hours of paid leave, amounting to four working weeks, and his normal weekly rate for leave taken. The complaint concerned the statutory entitlement in that leave year; the decision did not address the alleged agreement about more favourable arrangements for 2022.
